Hadrian's Wall
This is a part of our Ancient History and Archaeology page.
There were so many good photos of the Wall we had to put some of them on another page!
This page is one small part of Good Sites for Kids!
The Romans had conquered Britain except for that troublesome northern bit, now called Scotland.
The people up there did not want to be part of Rome (This is an example of an understatement.).
So the Romans decided to wall off the the north to keep the "wild barbarians" out.
In 122, Emperor Hadrian orders a wall built, to divide the Romans from the barbarians.

The Antonine Wall
The Antonine Wall was built about 20 years later farther
north and deep inside Scotland.
Abandoned about 22 years later, too hard
to defend and maintain.
